Week 39

Hello Friends and Family!

This week has been a pretty good week. We have been trying to work with the members a bit more and almost all of our lessons this week were member presents. I love doing missionary work and sharing the gospel with others. During district meeting we talked a lot about using the Book of Mormon, especially to resolve any concerns that investigators might have. Following the meeting we had the opportunity to use what we learned in almost every single lesson we had. It was incredible to see how quickly all questions can be resolved through the Book of Mormon.

This week I learned:
- Always keep an eye out for service: On our way home from an exchange we saw some people moving in and we decided to give them a helping hand. In about 100 degree weather we helped move their couches, dressers and washing machines into their second story apartment. I have never sweat more in my life (quite literally). They were so grateful for the extra pair of hands and it was fun breaking away from the normal routines.

Hope yall have a great week,
- Elder Shill

Sorry my letters are getting shorter. I will try to write more next week.

Week 38

Hello Friends and Family,
This has been a great week! We had another mini-missionary with us so we saw lots of miracles. I love mini-mission weeks because you get to experience an entire mission in one week. All the success, and all the disappointments. Its interesting to see it all in such a short period of time. We were able to teach a lot of lessons last week, which was a nice tender mercy.

We are teaching this one guy who used to be a professional boxer, which is super neat. He asks lots of good questions and is a little familiar with Mormonism because he used to work in Salt Lake. It has been really neat teaching him simple truths.

What I learned:
- I was reading in 2 Nephi 9 this week and I came across the phase "perfect faith" in verse 23. Even though I had read this verse probably one hundred times, this time that phrase jumped out and I started pondering what is the difference between faith and perfect faith. I learned that perfect faith means that your actions are in complete accordance with your beliefs.

- I love memorizing scriptures: During lessons I can feel my thoughts guided more as scriptures come more frequently to my head. The more I learn, the more I know that this church is absolutely true.

I love yall,
-Elder Shill

Week 37

Hello Friends and Family!

This week has been an incredible week! We were able to visit lots of people this week, which was great, and get back in contact with some previous investigators! I am learning pretty quickly that 90% of missionary work is just following up with people and coordinating schedules. Once you are actually able to meet together, then missionary work is easy because the Holy Ghost does it all.

We had our first set of interviews with President Weed. It was really fun to get to know him a little bit better. I am excited to work under him throughout my mission.

This week we are getting another mini-missionary, which I am so excited for. Last time we saw tons of miracles so I expect greatness this coming week.

This week I learned:
  • Don't put a crock pot on the stove.... It will crack....
  • Memorizing scriptures really does help your memory. Over the past week I have memorized a verse of scripture a day. The first day it took me well over 20 min, but by the end of the week I could memorize a scripture in less than 15 minutes.
  • Personal Revelation is real. There were a couple time this week, I just didn't know what to do, so I knelt in prayer and asked God. The answers I received were simple and were exactly what needed to be done.

I love y'all! Have a great week this week!
